TurnLine: Tungaloy Expands “TurnTec” for Heavy Turning 2. Feb. 2012

Iwaki / Japan, 2. February 2012 - For heavy turning applications, the Tungaloy Corporation has now extended its high feed TurnTec range of cutting tools. The innovative new insert and toolholder design has been extended to include new LNMX12 and LNMX24 insert dimensions to improve performance, tool life and chip evacuation when conducting facing, external and internal turning processes.

Ideal for heavy industry and general machining sectors, the extended TurnTec with a thicker and more robust insert design is the turning tool of choice for machining steel and stainless steel. The new TurnTec inserts incorporate a positive rake angle that drastically reduces cutting forces while the new four edged insert geometry offers the economical advantage of reduced tooling costs and increased productivity.

Suitable for the rough machining of small to large components, the new TurnTec utilises Tungaloy's special surface technology “PremiumTec” to improve chip flow and wear resistance. The new geometry of the TurnTec has a long curved cutting edge that enhances large depth of cut machining and chip control. This unique design also improves TurnTec's ability to machine scaled surfaces with its well designed inclination, making it suitable for heavy applications in the power generation, ship building, wind turbine and general production machine shops.

To further enhance chip flow, the TurnTec is available in Tungaloy's TDR and TWR types that utilise a chip breaker for effective machining of steel and stainless steel, while the MDR design has been created for carbon and stainless steel. These insert allocations are available with Tungaloy's T9115, T9125, AH725 grades that all utilise Tungaloy's PremiumTec to maximise performance on specific materials.

The LNMX inserts are available in a variety of widths, thicknesses, lengths and grades to meet the exact needs of the end user. To accommodate the range of inserts and the potential applications, Tungaloy has introduced a series of toolholders to cater for a diverse range of turning demands. The toolholders include the TLAN external turning and facing toolholder that is available in metric and imperial dimensions, the TLBN external machining holder with a 75 degree inclination, the TLFN external / facing holder and the S-TLAN internal machining holder with through coolant for highly productive internal turning.

The toolholders offer a back end relief to improve accessibility, especially for heavy turning and facing between centres. Despite having toolholder relief for improved access, the new designs exhibit remarkable rigidity while incorporating a design that enhances the performance of the inserts.
